Nida's CEO, James Kaji, emphasized that the institution's effectiveness depends on the discipline, accountability, and creativity of its staff. Under his leadership, significant improvements have been made in the distribution of identity cards, particularly in regions like Mwanza, where the number of expired identity cards has significantly decreased.
Despite this success, challenges such as material shortages, staffing issues, and overcrowded district offices still persist. To address these challenges, NIDA has developed digital services, including an SMS system that allows citizens to track the status of their identity cards without having to travel long distances. In addition, the government continues to improve the working conditions of NIDA employees by increasing their salaries, providing access to modern equipment, and offering frequent training sessions.
Ellie Senga Hyacinth, Secretary-General of the Ministry of the Interior, emphasizes that the identification system is an essential foundation for national security and the digital economy. The National Identification Number (NIN) is a crucial tool for banking services, telephone line registration, and employment. However, these achievements require the cooperation of citizens, particularly in obtaining their completed identity cards to reduce the congestion at the office.
Public education remains a priority to raise awareness about the importance of registration and the use of tokens. In the future, NIDA plans to expand its services to rural areas and improve its budgetary and policy framework to enhance its effectiveness. This current reform is part of Tanzania's journey towards a modern and integrated economy. Ultimately, the success of this system will be measured by how it simplifies citizens' lives and contributes to the nation's development, while digital identification continues to serve as a solid foundation for the country's growth and security.
