The Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) has started training its risk management staff to work with a new government digital platform designed to strengthen institutional risk management and improve the decision-making process in government agencies.

The five-day program introduces participants to the State Enterprise Risk Management System (GERMIS), a digital platform developed by the government to replace manual risk management processes with a centralized electronic system. The training, which takes place at the TARURA RISE project offices in the PSSSF building in Dodoma, is conducted by Adolfina Lugendo from the Office of the Government's Chief Internal Auditor.
Elli Ismail, TARURA's Risk Management Coordinator, said that the new platform will allow responsible risk management officials from the agency's departments and divisions to register and monitor institutional risks electronically.
Department heads acting as risk owners will be able to monitor identified risks and mitigation measures through the system, while simultaneously preparing reports in accordance with government risk management guidelines. «The GERMIS platform will allow the Chief Executive Officer, as the main owner of the agency's risks, as well as the Board of Directors to receive timely information about institutional risks and take appropriate measures to reduce them before they affect TARURA's operations», Ismail said. He added that the system will help ensure risk management within acceptable levels, improving the quality of management, accountability and operational efficiency of the agency.
The introduction of GERMIS is part of the Tanzanian Government's broader digital transformation program aimed at modernizing public administration and strengthening risk management practices in government institutions.
