Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional peace, security and diplomatic cooperation by continuing to actively participate in collective security measures throughout the region. This pledge was made during the 13th joint meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Sectoral Councils on Defence Cooperation, Peace and Security, and the Sectoral Council on Foreign Policy Coordination, held on Wednesday in Nairobi, Kenya.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Faraji Mnierpe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defense and National Service (MODANS) of Tanzania, stated that the forum had become an important platform for partner countries to assess progress in addressing regional peace and security issues and to strengthen joint strategies.
During the negotiations, the leaders discussed strengthening the early warning system (the Integrated Early Warning System of the ВАС) to identify and prevent security threats. Additionally, the conference endorsed a strategic plan to enhance the participation of women in defense and security matters, recognizing their contributions to conflict resolution. Another initiative under consideration is aimed at involving civil society (CSOs) in conflict prevention and management.
These programmes are aligned with Tanzania’s Vision 2050 Development Agenda, which emphasizes robust governance systems and inclusive leadership. Tanzania has already embarked on implementing national measures to enhance the role of competent women in the defence and security sector.
